What you may not use MugshotLookup for
You may not use MugshotLookup, or any information from it, in whole or in part, as a factor in deciding any of the following.
- Employment: hiring, promotion, reassignment or retention of an employee, a contractor, a household worker or a volunteer.
- Tenant screening: whether to rent or lease a home to a person.
- Consumer credit: whether to give a person a loan or credit, and on what terms.
- Insurance: whether to insure a person, and at what price.
- Eligibility for a license, a government benefit, a scholarship or an educational program.
- Any business transaction started by a consumer where the FCRA requires a consumer report.
These decisions require a consumer reporting agency that follows the FCRA, including its rules on permissible purpose, accuracy, disputes and notice to the person. MugshotLookup does not provide that service on any plan.
What you may use it for
- Looking up a person you are about to meet, such as an online date or a new neighbor.
- Finding out where a relative or a friend is held after an arrest.
- Checking your own public records and asking for a correction.
- Reconnecting with someone you lost touch with.
- Research and reporting on public records, for purposes outside the FCRA.
The confirmation before every search
Before each search you tick a box that says: I will not use MugshotLookup for employment, tenant screening, credit, insurance or any other purpose covered by the FCRA. The box is never checked for you. Using the service against this confirmation breaks the Terms of Service and can break federal law.
Accuracy of records
Records come from public sources and can be incomplete, out of date or attached to the wrong person. An arrest is not a conviction. Charges may have been dropped, dismissed or resulted in acquittal. If a record about you is wrong, ask for a correction for free on the opt-out page.
