Check Your Own Arrest Record Before Someone Else Does

Searching your own name shows you what anyone else would see: the arrest, booking and court records that public sources hold about you, with the source and date of each. If a record is wrong, belongs to someone else or was expunged, you can have it corrected or removed from MugshotLookup for free.

Why check your own record

  • A dismissed or expunged case may still appear in some sources.
  • A record of another person with your name may be attached to you.
  • An old arrest may show no disposition, which makes it look open.
  • You want to know what a new partner, a neighbor or a client can find.

How to check your own record

  1. Search your first name, last name and state. Repeat for each state you have lived in.

  2. Open the full report and read every row, with its source and date.

  3. Note any record that is wrong, out of date or not yours.

  4. Ask for a correction or removal on the opt-out page. It is free.

Fix the record at its source too

MugshotLookup can correct or remove its own copy. The original record stays with the agency or the court. To fix it there, contact the clerk of the court listed as the source and ask for the disposition to be updated, or ask a lawyer or a legal aid office about sealing or expungement in your state. When the source changes, tell us and we update our copy.

Getting an official copy of your record

For an official criminal history, ask the criminal history repository of your state, usually the state police or the department of public safety. For your federal record, request an Identity History Summary from the FBI. These official copies are what a court or an agency accepts.

Questions and answers

Does it cost anything to correct my record?

No. Correction, removal and opt-out are free for everyone, with or without an account.

My charges were dropped. Why does the arrest still show?

The arrest record and the court outcome are kept by different agencies. A report shows the disposition when the source reports it. If yours is missing, ask for a correction and we add the outcome or remove the record.
