Public Records Research for Newsrooms, Law Offices and Investigators
Public records research means finding and citing the arrest, booking and court records behind a story or a case. The Professional plan gives a small team one search across county and state sources, with the source, the jurisdiction and the date on every record, three seats with roles and a log of every search.
Searches are private. The person you search is not notified.
Who uses the Professional plan
- Reporters and editors checking the record of a person in a story before publication.
- Paralegals and attorneys gathering public records on parties and witnesses.
- Licensed private investigators working on matters outside the FCRA.
- Researchers studying arrests and case outcomes in a county or a state.
What an editor or a managing attorney asks about
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Can we cite the source? | Every record lists its source, jurisdiction and date |
| Who searched what? | The audit log records each search by seat and time |
| Who controls access? | 3 seats with roles, managed by an account owner |
| Can we file the result? | PDF and CSV export |
| How is it billed? | $99.95 per month or $599.40 per year by card, with an invoice copy by email |
| Is there a use policy? | Every seat accepts a permitted purpose statement, and use covered by the FCRA is excluded in writing |
What it replaces
Checking one person by hand means opening the jail roster, the clerk search and the corrections search of every county they have lived in. One membership replaces hours of county by county searching, and monitoring for 100 people keeps a newsroom or a case team informed when a new record appears.
Verify before you publish or file
A report is a lead, not a certified record. Before publication or filing, confirm each record with the agency or the court listed as its source, and check the disposition. An arrest is not a conviction. Charges may have been dropped, dismissed or resulted in acquittal.
What Professional cannot be used for
Professional is a research tool. It is not available for employment or tenant screening, credit, insurance or any other purpose covered by the FCRA, and there is no bulk data feed. MugshotLookup is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). You may not use this site or any information from it to make decisions about employment, tenant screening, consumer credit, insurance or any other purpose covered by the FCRA.

Questions and answers
Do you offer a data feed for bulk access?
No. Records are searched one person at a time through the site, within the fair use limit of 1,000 reports per month across seats.
Can we add more than 3 seats?
A Professional membership includes 3 seats. A larger team sets up a separate account for the next three people.
