1. Information we collect from visitors and account holders
- Account details: your email address and a protected form of your password.
- Search activity: the searches you run while signed in, the people you monitor and the reports you open.
- Demo searches without an account: a keyed hash of the search, the state and a hashed network address. We keep these only to enforce abuse limits and we cannot read the name back from the hash.
- Billing details: the plan you chose, the billing period and payment status. Card numbers are handled by our payment processor and are not stored on our servers.
- Technical data: network address, browser type, the page you arrived on and the campaign tags in the link you followed.
- Messages: what you send to support and what you submit in the opt-out form.
2. Information about people in public records
MugshotLookup reports contain information from public records and licensed data: names and aliases, arrest and booking records, charges and dispositions, court records, addresses, phone numbers, and relatives and associates. This information comes from licensed public records providers with the right to supply it and from official open data published by government agencies and courts. We store the source of every record.
We do not publish a public profile page about any person. Records are shown only in response to a search by a signed in user who has accepted the permitted use terms.
3. How we use information
- To run searches, build reports and send monitoring alerts.
- To create and secure accounts, confirm email addresses and prevent fraud.
- To bill memberships and send receipts, renewal notices and cancellation confirmations.
- To enforce abuse limits, including limits on repeated searches for the same person and on bulk searching.
- To honor opt-out, removal and correction requests and keep a suppression list so that suppressed records stay suppressed.
- To measure which pages bring visitors and where signups come from.
- To meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
We do not use the information in reports to make decisions about anyone, and we do not allow our users to use it for any purpose covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. See the FCRA notice.
4. Who receives information
We share personal information only with the categories of recipients below, and only as needed for the purpose stated.
- Hosting provider: stores the site and its databases.
- Payment processor: processes card payments for memberships and single reports.
- Email delivery provider: sends confirmation codes, receipts, alerts and replies from support.
- Licensed data providers: receive the search terms needed to return matching public records.
- Authorities: when the law requires it, or to protect a person from harm.
We do not sell the personal information of our account holders, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Providing a report to a user is a disclosure of information about the person searched. Some state laws treat that as a sale, which is why anyone can opt out for free on the Do Not Sell or Share page.
5. How long we keep information
- Account details are kept while the account is open and deleted when you delete the account, except records we must keep for tax, billing disputes and legal claims.
- Hashed demo search logs are kept for a short period for abuse limits and then deleted.
- Opt-out and suppression records are kept for as long as the suppression must stay in place, because deleting them would let the record reappear.
- Support messages are kept for as long as needed to resolve the request and for a reasonable period afterward.
6. Opt-out, removal and correction of records about you
If you appear in MugshotLookup search results or reports, you can ask us to suppress your name, remove a specific record or correct a record, for free, on the opt-out page. Standard requests are handled within 72 hours and priority requests within 24 hours. We never charge a fee for these requests.
7. Your rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act
If you live in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose about you, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, the right to opt out of its sale or sharing, the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and the right not to be treated differently for using these rights.
- To make a request, write to support@mugshotlookup.com or use the Do Not Sell or Share page. We verify requests by confirming control of the email address on the account or, for records about you, by matching the details you provide to the record.
- You may use an authorized agent. We ask the agent for your signed permission.
- We answer within 45 days. If we need more time, we tell you why.
- Categories we collect: identifiers, commercial information, internet activity, and, in reports, information from public records. The sources, purposes and recipients are described in sections 1 to 4.
Information lawfully made available from government records is treated as publicly available information under the CCPA. We still honor opt-out and deletion requests for it on the terms of this policy.
8. Your rights under other state privacy laws
Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws, including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon and Montana, have similar rights: to confirm whether we process their personal data, to access it, to correct it, to delete it, to get a copy, and to opt out of its sale and of targeted advertising. Use the same contact routes. If we decline a request, you can appeal by replying to our decision, and we answer the appeal in writing. If you are still not satisfied, you can contact the attorney general of your state.
Residents of Nevada can ask us not to sell their covered information by writing to support@mugshotlookup.com.
10. Security
Passwords are stored in hashed form, connections are encrypted, access to production data is limited, and searches are logged against accounts so that misuse can be investigated. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we notify you as the law requires.
11. Children
MugshotLookup is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children and we do not include juvenile records in reports.
12. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information we already hold in a significant way, we tell account holders by email before it takes effect.
13. Contact
