How arrest and booking records are kept in Florida

Shelves of bound state statute books in a law library reading room

Florida has one of the broadest public records laws in the country, in Chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes. Booking records, including the booking photo, are generally open, with exemptions for certain people such as law enforcement officers. Each county sheriff or county corrections department publishes its own jail roster or arrest search. Court cases are kept by the clerk of court in each county, and people sentenced to prison are recorded by the Florida Department of Corrections.

An arrest is not a conviction. Charges may have been dropped, dismissed or resulted in acquittal.
