Recent Arrests by County and State
Recent arrests are published by the agency that made them, usually the county sheriff or the county jail, as a booking log or a jail roster. Most logs cover the last one to three days and are updated through the day. To check whether a specific person was arrested recently, search the name in the county where it happened.
Searches are private. The person you search is not notified.
Where counties post recent arrests
There is no national list of recent arrests. Each county publishes its own, under names such as daily booking report, arrest log, booking blotter or jail roster.
| Source | What it lists | How far back |
|---|---|---|
| Daily booking report | Everyone booked into the county jail on a given day | Usually the last 24 to 72 hours |
| Jail roster | Everyone held in the jail right now | Current inmates only |
| Arrest inquiry | Arrests searchable by name and date | Varies by county, from weeks to years |
| Police department arrest log | Arrests made by one city department | Varies by department |
The official page for each county we cover is in the Source Directory.
How soon an arrest appears
A booking record appears after the person has been processed at the jail, which can take several hours after the arrest itself. A person who is cited and released, or who posts bond before booking is finished, may never appear on a jail roster. The court case appears later, once a prosecutor files charges.
What a recent booking entry lists
- Name, age and booking number
- Arresting agency and booking date
- Charges listed at booking
- Bond amount and custody status
An arrest is not a conviction. Charges may have been dropped, dismissed or resulted in acquittal.
Check whether a specific person was arrested recently
If you are looking for one person, a name search is faster than reading logs county by county. Enter the name and the state, add the city if you know it, and MugshotLookup returns the sources that cover the jurisdiction and, in the full report, the booking records it finds with their dates.
To hear about future arrests of the same person, turn on arrest alerts.
Why a recent arrest may not show
Some arrests are not public at once. Records of juveniles are confidential, an agency can withhold a record during an active investigation, and some states limit the release of booking photos. Booking photos appear only where state law allows commercial display and the source provides them.
Questions and answers
How do I find out if someone was arrested last night?
Check the jail roster or the daily booking report of the county where the arrest would have happened, or search the name and the state here. Allow a few hours for booking to finish. The guide how to find out if someone was arrested covers each step.
Do recent arrests include mugshots?
It depends on the county and the state. Some sheriffs publish booking photos with the roster, and some states restrict their release.
