Who's in Jail? Search the County Jail Roster

To see who's in jail, open the jail roster of the county. A jail roster is the list of people held in a county jail right now, published by the sheriff or the county corrections department. If you are looking for one person and do not know the county, search the name and the state instead.

What a jail roster lists

A jail roster changes through the day as people are booked and released. Most rosters show the same core fields.

  • Name, age and booking number
  • Booking date and arresting agency
  • Charges and bond
  • Housing facility and, in some counties, a booking photo

A roster shows current inmates. A person who was released, even an hour ago, is no longer on it. For past bookings, use an arrest records search.

Jail lookup by county

Every county runs its own jail lookup, under names like Who's in Jail, Inmate Search, Jail Inquiry or Arrest Inquiry. The Source Directory links to the official page for each county we cover, with the date we last verified it.

  • Florida counties, including Hillsborough, Pinellas, Orange and Miami-Dade
  • Texas counties, including Harris, Dallas, Tarrant, Bexar and Travis
  • North Carolina counties, including Wake and New Hanover
  • Arizona counties, including Maricopa

Find out where one person is held

Reading rosters county by county is slow when you do not know where the arrest happened. A search by name and state returns the official sources for the whole state, and the full report shows the booking and custody records it finds with their dates.

Jail is not the same as prison

Jails are run by counties and hold people who were just arrested, people waiting for trial and people serving short sentences. Prisons are run by states and the federal government and hold people sentenced for felonies. If the person was sentenced some time ago, use a state inmate search.

An arrest is not a conviction. Charges may have been dropped, dismissed or resulted in acquittal.
