How arrest and booking records are kept in Ohio

Arrest and booking records in Ohio are public records under the Ohio Public Records Act in R.C. 149.43, and sheriffs generally release booking photos with the jail record. Each county sheriff runs the county jail and its roster. Criminal cases are kept by the clerk of courts for the county and by municipal courts for lesser offenses. People sentenced to prison are recorded by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

An arrest is not a conviction. Charges may have been dropped, dismissed or resulted in acquittal.
